Said to have belonged to ‘the Queen of Java’, it was left to the donor, Mrs Dealtry, by Mrs HC Mitchell who may have acquired it in Peking, China, shortly after the First World War. Other capes in the collections, however, are thought to have been made by the Chinese in South Africa.
