Description:
This porcelain brushwasher is in the form of a handleless rectangular teapot with a flat cover standing on four feet. Inside there are three holes with tubes for supporting writing brushes. The washer can also be used as a water dropper for adding water to an ink cake to make ink for calligraphy. Water can be poured into the top and poured out through the spout. The cover is painted in black enamel with bamboo and on one side of the vessel is a bird perched on a branch of flowering peony and on the other a bird on a fruiting cherry branch. Either side of the spout are characters and the other end has a four character inscription in black enamel. On the base is an iron-red Tongzhi seal mark which has almost worn away.
