Description:
Rectangular porcelain box and cover with underglaze blue decoration. The lid of this box is decorated with a peacock standing on a rock flanked by giant tree peonies in a lobed oblong cartouche, surrounded by Y-diaper. Winged dragons with fish tails, flying over waves, are depicted in confronting pairs on the long sides and singly on the short sides of both the lid and the tray. The raised lip on both is bordered with ‘ruyi’ scrolls, as are the feet. Inside the box is glazed but plain. The base is unglazed and painted black.
