Description:
Miniature covered box with moulded decoration beneath a dark green glaze. The lid of. this miniature covered box is moulded with overlapping petals and with a central knob while the tray is incised with a complementary petal design. It is covered inside and out with a thin dark green lead glaze which has been much eroded by the sea.

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:Such boxes were made for export at the Tiankeng kiln sites in Nansheng, Pinghe county, Fujian province. These kilns, discovered in the early 1980s and excavated in 1997, primarily manufactured ‘su sancai’ glazed ceramics and boxes in particular. An identical box, described as pine-cone-shaped, was excavated there.
