Description:
Bowl with both moulded and incised decoration beneath a luanbai glaze. This deep bowl has rounded sides and stands on a square-cut thick splayed foot ring. Its base is unglazed, domed and comes to a nipple point in the centre. Inside it is decorated with a moulded design of a central empty roundel surrounded by two geese flying among clouds with a classic scroll border. Outside around the rim is an incised border of wavy lines with five incised lappets radiating from the foot. These designs appear to have been created using a sharp tool with three parallel points. It is further decorated with a single moulded character, 禄 lu, meaning official salary.

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:Flying geese were a popular decorative motif in the Yuan. An underglaze red yi from the Yuan Gao’an hoard was decorated with a goose flying with a branch in its mouth. Geese are regarded as the bearers of good news.
