Fine white porcelain bowl. Decorated in red, blue, green, orange and yellow enamels in a ground of yellow. Design of intertwining peony scroll around the exterior, with interior bluish-white and undecorated.

The court porcelain decorators were influenced by techniques of enamelling on metalwork already practised at the Palace. Instead of the underglaze blue reign mark used on porcelains completed at Jingdezhen, this bowl, typical of Palace workshop decoration, is marked using overglaze blue enamel. Also, the character 年 (nian ‘year’), is here replaced by 御 (yu ‘imperial’) to read 康熙御製 (Kangxi yuzhi ‘made by imperial command of the Kangxi emperor’).
