- Description:
Ye Xiaoyan (active in the first half of the 13th century), a native of Hangzhou, has few paintings handed down from generation to generation and few records in his life. This volume, based on the title of the ten scenic spots of the West Lake, combined with the characteristics of the landscape, conveys the beautiful scenery of each scenic spot in different seasons. The rocks are all painted with simple big axe, which doesn’t pay attention to the details. They are often painted with halo dye to show the effect of jade like freezing. In addition to the use of dense lines and shades of color to build an ingenious composition, it can also highlight the beautiful outlines of rocks, trees and buildings in the fog. The painter combines the real scene elements and atmosphere to reshape the romantic painting with blurred light and shadow and hazy fog. (Qiu Shihua)
