Comments:Published PDF date : Northern Song 10th century Room 95 label text:PDF 214Tea bowl with foliate rimFrom the eighth century, green wares enjoyed a revival at the Yue kilns of northern Zhejiang province. Yue wares are the first ceramics to feature in texts in the Tang dynasty (AD 618–906). Writers praised them, likening their green glaze to jade. In AD 760, Lu Yu published the 茶經Chajing ‘Tea Classic’) recommending the use of Yue wares for tea drinking as their subtle green glazes enhanced the colour of the green tea then in fashion. The spread of tea-drinking in southern China and the endorsement of Yue wares by the literate elite fuelled demand for these stonewares.
