Comments:Published PDF date : Ming Chenghua Room 95 label text:PDF A648 ‘Palace’ bowls with daylilies This palace bowls show daylilies, recognised by their five petals, three sepals and long thin leaves. Daylilies are called 萱草 (xuancao), and are a rebus for many sons and grandsons. Arguably the emperor was more concerned with his succession in the later part of his reign and porcelains with decoration related to fertility and sons became more popular. He had only one surviving son who went on to succeed him to the throne as the Hongzhi emperor (AD 1488–1505). Archaeologists have excavated similar bowls from a late Chenghua era context at Jingdezhen of about AD 1482 to 1487.Porcelain with underglaze cobalt-blue decorationJingdezhen, Jiangxi province江西省, 景德鎮Ming dynasty, Chenghua mark and period, AD1465–87 PDF A648萱草紋宮碗這件瓷碗花紋為萱草,可由其五花瓣、三花萼和細長的葉子辨識。
