    Xia Gui, whose name is Yu Yu, was born in Qiantang (today’s Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province). He was a court painter in the Southern Song Dynasty. He entered the court at the end of the Xiaozong Dynasty and was active in the Ningzong Dynasty to the Lizong Dynasty.
