- Description:
The painting pavilion is facing the pool, with green willows hanging in the front and back, and two women’s pavilions playing chess. Outside the pavilion, the pond and lotus are in full bloom, and the fields are covered with green leaves. The ladies either lean on the fence to fish or hold a fan to watch the lotus, which is a leisurely scene in summer. The house boundary and clothing are finely carved, and the pink flowers and green leaves are brightly colored. This painting was once said to be the work of Zhou Wenju of the Southern Tang Dynasty. Only the brush and ink and the use of tools reveal the customs of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Zhou Wenju (active in the 10th century AD) was born in Jurong, Jiankang (now Nanjing). Li Yu, the queen leader of the imperial court, waited for the imperial edict, and was able to paint the crown, dress, and vehicle, especially the ladies.
