[Jade Dragon Head Huang]

The jade dragon head Huang, from the late Warring States period, was 17.4 centimeters long, 6 centimeters high, and 0.3 centimeters thick. Unearthed in Yanggong Township, Changfeng County, Anhui Province in 1977
The Huangyu material is dark cyan in color, with local color changes caused by buried erosion. It is flaky, arc-shaped, and has a circumference of about one-third. The dragon head pattern carved on both sides of the Huang resembles a beast in shape, with ears attached to the neck. The upper lip is thick and large, and the lower lip is thin and pointed. The mouth is hollow and carved with tooth patterns. The body is decorated with raised grain patterns, with fine Yin lines connecting the grains. There is a small hole in the middle of the upper part of Huang for threading ropes and hanging
Dragon head jade ornaments appeared in the Shang Dynasty, usually with a single dragon head and a body resembling a dragon body. During the Western Zhou Dynasty, there appeared a double dragon head decoration, most of which were decorated with dragon bodies connected by arcs. During the Warring States period, there were many dragon shaped pendants, some of which were made in the shape of Huang. The body of this type of dragon head decoration has no meaning of dragon at all, and the content expressed is broader than the dragon shape decoration. This pendant is the larger work of the dragon head pendant in the Warring States period. The dragon mouths at both ends can be hung with other pendants, so it should be the upper jade piece in a group of jade pendants.
