Pu Yi has four “Treasures of Xuantong Imperial Tour”, one of which is used in his imperial tour of calligraphy and paintings. In 1923, as more and more palace artifacts and antique calligraphy and paintings were stolen and dispersed to the market or mortgaged to banks, Pu Yi summoned Zheng Xiaoxu, Luo Zhenyu, and others to start counting the calligraphy and paintings in the palace collection. Pu Yi wrote in his memoirs, “The counted calligraphy and paintings were stamped with a ‘treasure of Xuantong imperial inspection’ and recorded. However, this inventory caused a storm in the city. At that time, I didn’t know, but it was not so bad. The more things were counted, the fewer things were, and various ways of generating wealth were provided for the elders.”
