[Embroidered Thread Cixi Printing Pine and Crane Figure Axis]

Embroidered Thread Cixi Printing Pine and Crane Figure Axis, Qing Guangxu, 133 centimeters vertically and 65 centimeters horizontally. The old collection of the Qing Palace
This picture axis is a corner of an island in the Embroidered Sea on a ivory satin ground. There are floating clouds above, the sea water is surging below, and there are pines and cranes on the cliff
In the upper right corner, the title “Guangxu Wuxu Mid Summer Xia Xia Yu Bi” is embroidered with “Da Ya Zhai”, “Mirror Rong Zhu He” red double dragon seals, and “Chengming Receiving Light” white text seals. Under the pine tree, a poem is embroidered with black silk thread: “A hundred feet tall, I aspire to soar to the sky, and the wind and frost in the Yan Gully are countless years old. I have invited immortal birds to accompany me, and my feather clothes dance freely. Lu Runxiang pays tribute to the title.” The upper and left sides of the screen are respectively embroidered with Zhu Wenyin, “Treasure of Empress Dowager Cixi” and “Joy of the People”
The year of 1898 is the 24th year of Guangxu (1898)
The embroidery work in this picture is extremely exquisite. Although the water wave stitch method, which is made of light green, beige, and deep beige silk threads and diagonally wound needles, is simple, the luster of the silk thread and the fineness of the stitches make it look better than the color flat coating effect of the painting. In addition, various objects are embroidered with needle techniques such as set needles, end needles, disk needles, and hair needles, each of which has its own unique advantages. The entire painting is embroidered with silk threads without any ink on it. The stitches are concise and exquisite, mimicking the Qing Dynasty’s “courtyard style” landscape painting method of light crimson, that is, applying an ochre color to the middle of the water and ink landscape. The texture of mountain stones and pine trees depicted in the texturing method in the painting are all embroidered with ochre color threads
This embroidery with the imperial pen of Emperor Guangxu and a poem inscribed by Lu Runxiang is a rare masterpiece of embroidery in the late Qing Dynasty.
