Yellow ground pastel illuminated “Wanshou Wujiang” bowl, Tongzhi of the Qing Dynasty, with a height of 8.1 centimeters, a caliber of 13 centimeters, and a foot diameter of 6.2 centimeters
The bowl is straight and slightly open, with a deep belly and rounded feet. The mouth is painted with gold color, and the inside and outside of the mouth, as well as the foot wall, are decorated with red ripple bands. The white glazed ground inside the bowl is painted with patterns of butterflies and flowers, and the yellow glazed ground on the outer wall is decorated with four circular open lights. The four regular script red characters “Wan”, “Shou”, “Wu”, and “Jiang” are written inside and surrounded by auspicious patterns. Between the open lights, patterns of bats, peaches, and intestines are painted, implying “Wanfu” and “Wanshou”. On the white glaze ground on the outer bottom, there is a regular script with four characters in red color: “Changchun Tongqing”
“Changchun Tongqing” porcelain is generally exquisite official kiln ware. This bowl is a festive porcelain used by Emperor Tongzhi during his wedding.
