[Chicken Blood Stone “Yiqing Yuexing” Seal]
“Yiqing Yuexing” Seal, in the late Qing Dynasty, made of chicken blood stone, with a square shape and light element, with Chinese seal script. The surface is 1.8cm square, and the overall height is 5.8cm. “Made by Wu Yonggong, my minister.”
The official seal used by Empress Dowager Cixi. It can be seen from the margin that this seal was carved and presented by Wu Yong. Wu Yong, a native of Wuxing, Zhejiang Province, was born in 1865, the fourth year of Tongzhi’s reign. As a child, he had a solid family background and successively studied with famous teachers such as Liu Fuchu, Guo Shaoxian, and Guo Songtao. “In addition to dabbling in the classics and history, I worked on painting, understood music and rhymes, and copied Han seals. In ancient times, I was famous for my elegance and elegance, and I was known for my self-sufficiency in painting and calligraphy.”. In the 26th year of Guangxu’s reign (1900), when the Eight-Nation Alliance invaded Beijing, Empress Dowager Cixi fled with Emperor Guangxu in a panic, and passed through Shanxi to Xi’an. “On the way between passes, there was no embarrassment in the day’s meal, no bed at night, and hunger, cold and fatigue”, she was in a state of depression. Fortunately, Wu Yongtu, who was Ren Huailai’s Supervisor of the County at that time, met him on his way and served him more respectfully, which made the situation slightly better. As a result, Wu Yong was deeply favored and trusted by Empress Dowager Cixi, and was appointed as the Front Road Grain Taiwan Association Office, overseeing the westward journey. “To promote the prefect, one must specialize in performing official duties, coddle the crown of officials, and look sideways from the inside.”. This seal was probably carved and presented by Empress Dowager Cixi in Wu Yongzhi after she returned from Xi’an
