The Yuqing Palace is located between the Fengxian Palace and the Zhai Palace on Neiting East Road. It was built on the site of the Fengci Palace in the Ming Dynasty in the 18th year of Kangxi (1679) of the Qing Dynasty. It was added and expanded in the 59th year of Qianlong (1794) and the 6th year of Jiaqing (1801), respectively, and was repaired during the Guangxu period. Yuqing Palace was specially built for the crown prince during the reign of Kangxi, and later served as the residence of the Crown Prince. Emperor Qianlong lived in this palace from the age of twelve to seventeen. When Emperor Jiaqing was five years old, he lived in this palace with his brothers, nephews, and others. Later, he moved to the Xiefang Hall and ascended the throne in the 60th year of the Qianlong reign (1795) before returning to the Yuqing Palace. After Emperor Jiaqing ruled in person, he stipulated that this palace should no longer be inhabited by princes. Regarding this, Emperor Jiaqing wrote in his “Records of Yuqing Palace”, “Those who granted permission not to allow princes to reside in this palace should also respect the imperial examination, be careful to simplify Yuanliang, maintain a long history, and not dare to create a place for leisure sightseeing. Respecting this righteousness, writing in the palace court, and observing reporters, we can also understand the profound meaning of giving permission to inherit the past and following it.” However, during the Tongzhi and Guangxu dynasties, this palace served as the emperor’s reading place, Emperor Guangxu once lived here
