The saddle has a wooden tire, and the front and rear saddle bridges are inlaid with copper plated engraved leaf pattern saddle plates. The periphery of the saddle plate is reinforced with small copper leaves. A pair of iron plated gold engraved horse pedals with cloud dragon and pearl patterns, decorated with a gold cross diamond pestle pattern. The saddle surface is paved with a saddle pad, which is made of miscellaneous pattern brocade, with a yellow flannel edge and a yellow silk lining. A satin cushion with a gold cloud dragon pattern is woven and covered with thin silk cotton to make the ride soft. A yellow paper sign is attached, and the ink script reads, “On July 26, the forty fifth year of Qianlong’s reign, the Panchen Erdeni entered an iron gilded and exquisite saddle.” A leather sign is also attached, and the ink script in Manchu and Han dynasties reads, “The Emperor Renzong Rui used a gilded saddle for the tenth year of Jiaqing to store it respectfully.”. Emperor Rui is the posthumous title of Emperor Jiaqing, indicating that this signature was added by later generations for Emperor Jiaqing. (Liu Liyong)
