The smoking pot is of the lantern type, with a round bottom and a copper gilded carved flower cover. Enamel colored decorations are painted on transparent red glass throughout. The upper half of the pot is painted with a wreath pattern, and the lower half is painted with a sea spray holding the pattern of the Dark Eight Immortals. The Dark Eight Immortals are the treasures in the hands of the Eight Immortals in myth and legend, implying the meaning of “Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea.”. The bottom of the pot is engraved with four characters in regular script “made in the Qianlong era”
Enamel colored decorations depicted in red transparent glass are the only one in the collection of the Forbidden City.
