Yuming Chengni Antique Stone Channel Inkstone is 7.9 centimeters long, 8 centimeters wide, and 4.8 centimeters high during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. The old collection of the Qing Palace
The inkstone is fired from clear mud and has a square shape. The surface of the inkstone is surrounded by curved water, and the edges are carved with cloud patterns. The side is embossed with an animal face with a ring and a head, and the four corners are small feet on the animal face. On the outer bottom of the inkstone, the seal character “Yizi” is engraved, and the imperial inscription of Emperor Qianlong is engraved around it: “Fang Ying has half an inch, surrounded by a canal. Copper and stone are covered in mud, and they are seen together for thousands of years. Although the edge is small, its use is like an inch field praising chemicals. Emperor Qianlong Ding Youchun inscribed the inscription.” And the “Tai Pu” seal is printed. The production of Chengni inkstone by Ding You in the 42nd year of Qianlong’s reign (1777) began in the Tang Dynasty and flourished in the Song Dynasty. Su Yijian of the Song Dynasty recorded the production method of Chengni inkstone in the “Four Manual of the Study”, which was quite elaborate. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, there were still imitations of ancient Chengni inkstones made in the Inner Court’s weaving office and Suzhou weaving office
