The goblet is made of sapphire, with a rectangular mouth, a straight edge, a long neck, a convex belly, high rounded feet, and an upright skirt underneath. The neck and feet are decorated with retro patterns of brocade and cicada, and the abdomen is decorated with animal facial patterns
This utensil is modeled after a bronze Gu, which was popular in the mid and late Shang Dynasty as a drinking utensil. In the Qing Dynasty, among handicrafts such as jade, porcelain, and enamel, there were goblets inspired by bronze goblets. Some of the jade articles of this type in the Qing court are also lined with copper or paper liners, with several sets of holes on them that can be used for flower arranging
