The cover has a brocade pattern with the “Swastika” character as the ground, and the large “Fu” character is carved on it. Between the strokes, patterns such as the Dark Eight Immortals, Miscellaneous Treasures, and Broken Pine and Bamboo are carved, implying good luck. The upper and lower walls are decorated with a “Swastika” shaped brocade pattern. The inner and outer soles are black gloss paint
Carved lacquer works are decorated with auspicious characters as the main pattern, starting from the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. The characters “Fu”, “Lu”, and “Shou” are commonly seen. Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty also had a special liking for this, and repeatedly ordered imitations, some of which were completely copied, while others were subject to changes. Craftsmen would make them according to the emperor’s instructions. This Fuzi box is a carved lacquer work carved in red, and its origin should be a Fuzi plate from the Jiajing period. However, details such as paint color, carving techniques, and patterns still reflect the style and characteristics of the Qianlong period, indicating that this is a type of auspicious carved lacquer work that has undergone changes during the Qianlong period
