Copper Handle Lacquer Sheath Waist Knife

[Copper Handle Lacquer Sheathed Waist Knife]

Lacquer Sheathed Waist Knife with Copper Handle, Qing Dynasty, 135 cm long, old collection in the Forbidden City
The handle is made of pear wood, wrapped in blue satin inside, and wrapped with yellow ribbon outside. The handle end and hand guard are made of copper, plated with gold and silver, and engraved with a round royal emblem through the eye. The blade is made of steel, the scabbard is made of wood, and the surface is sprayed with gold paint. Three rings of copper plated gold and silver hoop are engraved with the same emblem as the handle. The scabbard is attached with a strap. Attached is a leather sticker and the ink book is full of Chinese characters: “Emperor Gaozong Chun used a Japanese long sword sprinkled with gold and lacquer, which was respectfully stored in the eighth year of Qianlong.”. From the symbol of the king’s emblem on the blade ornament, it can be seen that it is undoubtedly the waist knife that the Ryukyu Kingdom paid tribute to.
