The scabbard is painted black, the handle is made of iron, and the outside is wrapped with a yellow ribbon. The black paint on the hand guard is painted with golden cherry blossoms and phoenix patterns. The hilt of the knife is tied with a sheepskin stick and inscribed in ink in four languages: Manchu, Han, Mongolian, and Tibetan: “In the 22nd year of Qianlong, the Ryukyu State respectfully introduced a black lacquered sheath waist knife.” The 22nd year of Qianlong was 1757.
