The 15th day of the first month of the lunar calendar is the Lantern Festival. The old custom is to put up lights at night as a play, so it is also called the Lantern Festival. This volume is describing this time. The scene of three women playing together, the children jumping into their mother’s arms, the horse running lantern on the table, the elephant lantern on the ground and other details are similar to the other picture of Li Songzhi in the courtyard, which retains more Tang Yin and Du Jin styles in the middle of the Ming Dynasty. Both should be antique works of Suzhou Painting Workshop after the middle of the Ming Dynasty. One of its characteristics is to piece together the popular motifs into different paintings to achieve the purpose of commercial production.
