The Qianqing Palace is the highest ranking building in the inner court of the Forbidden City. It was first built in the 18th year of Yongle’s reign in the Ming Dynasty (1420). The Ming Dynasty was the emperor’s bedroom and place for daily activities. Inside, there were nine warm pavilions, each with two floors up and down, and each connected by stairs, allowing the emperor to live at will. The “Renyin Palace Incident” of Emperor Shengle Jiajing, a palace maid who shocked the court in the Ming Dynasty, and the “Red Pill Case” and “Palace Relocation Case” of the three major court mysteries of the late Ming Dynasty all occurred here. Emperor Shunzhi and Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty still lived here. Since Emperor Yongzheng moved to the Heart Nurturing Hall, it has become a place for emperors to read books, review memorials, summon ministers, introduce officials, and hold internal court ceremonies and family banquets. The “Zhengda Guangming” plaque in the hall is written by Emperor Shunzhi. Emperor Yongzheng established a secret storage system, and the storage box was placed high behind this plaque.
