The “Learning Poetry Hall” is located in the back hall of the Jingyang Palace, one of the six palaces in the east of the Forbidden City. It is a very important place for collecting and storing calligraphy and painting books in the Qing Dynasty palace. The name of the “Learning Poetry Hall” is closely related to the collection of calligraphy and painting monuments in the hall. The “poem” in the “learning poetry hall” refers to the “Book of Songs” in the “Four Books and Five Classics” of Chinese Confucian classics. In the early Southern Song Dynasty, Emperor Gaozong of the Song Dynasty ordered court painter Ma Hezhi to draw the Complete Map of Mao’s Poems based on the “Book of Songs” passed down by Duke Mao of the Han Dynasty, and personally wrote scriptures to match it, becoming a famous work in the history of Chinese calligraphy and painting. However, with the passage of time, many works have been lost. By the Qianlong Dynasty, there were a total of 17 volumes in the Neifu collection. After the examination and approval of Emperor Qianlong, it was believed that five of the volumes were fakes, and the remaining twelve volumes were authentic works of Ma Hezhi. Emperor Qianlong wrote a postscript at the back of each volume, which was collected in the rear hall of the Jingyang Palace inside the palace. In the 35th year of Emperor Qianlong’s reign (1770), a plaque titled “Learning Poetry Hall” was inscribed and hung in the hall. The poem written by Emperor Qianlong in the spring of the second year, “The books on the east wall are stored in Jingyang, and the rear hall of Xinyan is modeled after the poetry hall. It is due to the collection of the records of the emperors and ministers of Zhao and Song Dynasties, and the contemplation of the Jizhou Ritual and Music Hall”, that is a factual record of the situation at that time
