This ivory carving is carved and connected from multiple pieces of ivory. On the grass carved with a rough knife technique, the second shepherd boy sat on the ground, playing the flute, the other raising his arm to pat his companion, and the three sheep lay meekly beside them, as if listening to the sound of the flute. “Sanyang symbolizes” Three Yangs Bringing Prosperity “, and the sound of a flute indicates peace. This is the auspicious motif often used on utensils in the mid Qing Dynasty.”
This piece of work was made by experts from the Qing Palace Fabrication Office using the remaining ivory fragments. It has a delicate design, exquisite shape, and elegant artistic conception. The eyes, hair, and sheep’s eyes of the characters are all ink dyed, with a touch of finishing touch, adding a touch of charm to the work. This work is exquisite in carving techniques, reflecting the delicate and delicate style of tooth carving art during the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty. It is an important work for studying court art in the Qing Dynasty.
