[Tooth Carved Black Lacquer Flower Tracing Penholder]
Tooth Carved Black Lacquer Flower Tracing Penholder, mid Qing Dynasty, 13.7 cm high, 11.5 cm maximum diameter. The old collection of the Qing Palace
The cylinder has a 6-petal pattern, with each side slightly recessed, and the overall curve is beautiful. Set 6 low feet at the bottom and top corners. The mouth and foot edges are decorated with variant Kui patterns, while the main body of the barrel is decorated with a variety of folding flowers, such as peonies, magnolias, chrysanthemums, plum blossoms, etc., with a bright and strong effect
This process requires first removing the shallow relief decoration from the ivory surface, then repeatedly painting black paint on the open ground until the paint surface is flush with the decoration height, and then polishing and trimming. In addition, in local areas such as flower stamens, leaf veins, and other areas, the best decorative effect can be achieved by using the technique of intaglio painting. Its overall appearance has broken through some limitations of ivory carving in terms of color, and this process is one of the outstanding achievements of palace ivory carving in the mid Qing Dynasty.
