Red sandalwood Baibao Inlaid with Eight Immortals and Begonia Style Storage Box, 9.7 cm high, 35.5 cm long, and 22.5 cm wide
The box is made of red sandalwood, and the lid and box are made of the Begonia flower pattern, with a lower leg bearing the Begonia flower pattern. The author uses various techniques such as gold and silver inlaying, inlaying and splicing, and uses yellow and white mother-of-pearl inlay and various gemstones to decorate the collection box with extraordinary delicacy and splendor. The cover is inlaid with a picture of “Eight Immortals Wishing Birthday”, with a delicate image and sparse and clear scenery. On the wall of the box, yellow mother-of-pearl inlaid with dragons, and white mother-of-pearl inlaid with floating clouds and fire beads. The box is equipped with 5 silver storage plates with gold inlaid lotus patterns
This work is one of the same three pairs of food storage boxes left by the Qing Dynasty Palace. The workmanship is exquisite and the inlay materials used are very expensive. Pine leaves are used to dye teeth, Lingshi is carved from Shoushan stone and lapis lazuli, Liuyun is inlaid with mother-of-pearl inlay, the character’s dress is made of agate, and the trees in the mountains are dotted with red, sapphire, and jadeite. These dazzling inlays appear particularly exquisite and luxurious against the deep color of rosewood
