Rhinoceros horn carved beast face pattern square furnace

[Rhinoceros Horn Carved Beast Face Pattern Square Stove]

Rhinoceros Horn Carved Beast Face Pattern Square Stove, mid Qing Dynasty, with a total height of 11cm and a foot diameter of 6.1-5.1cm. The old collection of the Qing Palace
The square furnace is carved from rhinoceros horn and modeled after ancient bronze ware. The body of the instrument is like a square bucket, with upright ears, four cylindrical feet tilted outward, and four internal arch curves formed from the edge of the mouth to the tip of the foot, making its overall contour elegant and full. The furnace body has small leaf edges on all sides, with ridges protruding from the four corners. The four sides of the furnace body are decorated with the same patterns, with the upper part carved with the double Kui phoenix pattern rising from the sun, and the lower part carved with the double Kui dragon pattern, synthesizing a patterned animal face pattern
The production of this furnace requires cutting the rhinoceros horn into four parts, heating it to deform it, and then carving it. The process is complex and extremely difficult to make. From this, we can see the high level of rhinoceros horn technology achieved in the mid Qing Dynasty.
