Tourmaline Peach Tree Bonsai, made in Suzhou in the mid Qing Dynasty, has a total height of 56 centimeters, a basin height of 16.5 centimeters, and a caliber of 31.2 centimeters
Painted enamel rhombus flower-shaped basin with deep and light blue glaze on the outer wall, and painted with peony patterns. Peach trees are planted in the basin as the main scenery, with wooden branches, jasper leaves, and peach fruit made of red and pink gemstones such as hibiscus stone, tourmaline, and honey wax. The trees are lined with lake rocks, camellia, and brocade flowers for a week. This scene is well arranged and vivid, showing a refreshing and bright style of Jiangnan bonsai
This bonsai is a daily furnishings in the palace. The peach tree scenery with a peony pattern basin bears the meaning of “Pan Tao Xian Rui” and “Wealth, Nobility, and Longevity”. It should be a gift from various officials on the emperor’s birthday.
