White jade human face bird and animal pattern axe, Qing Qianlong, each 9.6 cm long, 4.2 cm wide and 0.6 cm thick
The axe is made of white jade. The shape and size of the two pieces are similar. The upper end is wide and has a blade. Each side is carved with an engraved pattern. One piece has two holes at the lower end, one front human head at the upper part of the front, one side human head under the two ears, the lower part is the deformed animal face pattern, and the back part is the upper and lower groups of deformed animal face patterns. The official script “Hongzi No. 7” and “Qianlong Year System” are engraved on both sides of the axe. The lower end of the other piece is a hole, the front side is a bird and animal pattern, the bird’s claw touches the animal’s back, and the back side is a hook lotus pattern. On both sides of the axe are engraved the official script “Huangzi No. 8” and “Qianlong Year System”
These are two antique jades of the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty with thousand-character serial numbers (“Hongzi” and “Huangzi”). Their shapes, patterns and drill holes are carved by imitating ancient jade axes. They are the best of the antique jades of this period.
