Shangri-la, also known as Shambhala, is the mythological world in Buddhist legend, and later recognized as the birthplace of the Shilun teachings. The first Dharma king of Shambhala was Yuexian, who is said to be the son of Sunlight and the Honorable Heavenly Daughter. He listened to the 12000 chants of the “Chronicle of the Wheel” and wrote notes and commentaries on 60000 chants before the Buddha in South India. He used five kinds of jewelry to build a three-dimensional mandala in the south of the palace. Since King Yuexian, Xiangla has passed on 34 generations of Dharma kings, known as “thirty-four generations of seed king of Chambala”
In the picture, Yuexian king, with black beard on his face, is sitting in front of the palace, wearing a crown, wearing a Tibetan king’s robe, holding Buddhist scriptures in his left hand, and saying seals in his right hand, with ministers and people listening to the Dharma. There is a Tibetan inscription at the bottom of the picture, which reads: “The heaven is free from the king of the Dharma. He received the crown of the time wheel at the auspicious time wheel Vajra mandala, and practiced it with the power of Vajra. He ranks first among all the Dharma Yin.”
