The picture shows an ancient plum tree with no soil at its root, hollow at its heart, and several plum flowers blooming on its side branches, showing its tenacious vitality. According to the self-titled poem in the painting: “Think of Xiao in the Plum Blossom Painting”, this picture is a painting by Zheng Sixiao, a painter who imitated the Song Dynasty, who painted Lan without touching the land, in order to imply that the land was taken by foreigners, expressing his yearning for the Ming Dynasty. The pen in the picture is vigorous and powerful, with rough lines and many hard twists and turns. The ink is dry and moist and expressive. This picture is the representative work of Zhu Da in his middle age
This picture has three pieces written by Zhu Da, which are respectively signed with the following words: “Donkey House Donkey Book” and stamped with “date and year”; “Ren Xiaochun has another title”, stamped with “donkey” Zhu Wenyin; “The husband is a donkey”. “Ren Xiaochun” refers to the 21st year of Kangxi’s reign in the Qing Dynasty (1682), when Zhu Da was 57 years old
There are inscriptions of the Luo Dynasty and the Han Dynasty under the picture. The seal is printed with “Huizuzhai” Zhu Wenyin and “Daxing Liu Quanfu’s family seal” Bai Wenyin.
