The image of Avalokitesvara is sketched with hair on the ground of dark colored damask. It is made with rolling needle by means of ink line drawing. The stitch is fine and the image is lifelike. Avalokitesvara, also known as Guanzi, is one of the “Three Saints of the West”, the left retinue of Amitabha. Avalokitesvara has different images. This embroidered image of Guanshiyin sitting with folded hands, feet facing up, left hand resting on the knee naturally drooping, comfortable and comfortable. At the top of the picture, a Buddhist scripture is embroidered:
It is whirling and turbid, like a sea of bitterness
Bodhisattva is at ease
It is known that the wok is clean
The fragrance of the rain, the moon and the cloud
The signature “The book of Wang Xinzhan, the disciple of Xinwei Guyang of Kangxi”, is embroidered in the lower right corner “Li He Nan, the disciple of Zhushan in February of Xinwei, embroidered.” Xinwei is the thirtieth year of Kangxi (1691)
In the inscription of this embroidery, “whirling” should be written as “whirling”. Buddhism means the world now. This image is a superb work of hair embroidery in the Qing Dynasty.
