[Green Land Red 18 Arhat Penholder]
Green Land Red 18 Arhat Penholder, mid Qing Dynasty, 15.5 cm high, 19.3 cm in diameter. The old collection of the Qing Palace
The pen holder is round, and the bottom bears four Ruyi head shaped short feet. The pattern is carved with green paint, with red and green paint clusters of spray as the ground. In the sea waves, there are plains, hills and pine trees. Turtle backed brocade ground is carved on it. Eighteen Arhat are carved with red paint. All Arhat have different postures and vivid expressions
The lacquer is thick, so the carved patterns have a strong three-dimensional sense. The facial expressions, body movements of Arhat and the ribbons of cassocks are all carved lifelike, fully demonstrating the superb craftsmanship of Qing Dynasty lacquer carving
