The fan page has its own title: “The picture of the chrysanthemum in Tongyin. The clown Xiaochun goes up to the toilet. It is written by Bingwen.” The seal is “Bingwen” and the seal is Zhu Wenyin
“Yi Chou” was the fourth year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1865), when Qin Bingwen was 63 years old
The picture depicts a tall wutong tree with thick branches and leaves, grass houses lined under the shade of the tree, and a high scholar sitting in the room watching the scene of a boy moving a pot of chrysanthemums. Through the description of natural scenery and people’s appreciation of chrysanthemum, this picture creates a peaceful, comfortable and contented artistic conception, reposes the author’s ideal of life that is free from dust and worldly affairs, and shows Tao Yuanming’s life style of “picking chrysanthemum under the east fence, and looking at the south mountain at a leisurely pace”. The painting is skillful in brushwork and vivid in color. It has the elegant and quiet style of literati painting
