Picture scroll of pro-vassal hunting

[Picture volume of pro-van hunting]

Qing Dynasty, unknown, silk edition, color setting. 52 cm vertically and 165 cm horizontally
This picture scroll is one of the series of music pictures of a Manchurian nobleman, depicting the scene of the owner looking at the dog in the garden. An aristocratic youth sat on a tiger chair and looked at the black mastiff in front of him, showing surprise and satisfaction. During the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1662-1722), he paid special attention to the hunting by riding and shooting, and Kangxi took this as one of the methods to strengthen military preparedness and train the army in peacetime. Strong crossbows, sharp arrows and fine horses and famous dogs are not only necessary tools for the nobles to hunt, ride and shoot, but also show their talent and courage in this field.
