Due to the feudal concept of the Chinese emperor’s “self esteem”, missionary painters who had received systematic western painting training in Europe had to change some painting habits to adapt to and please the Chinese monarch after entering the court, which made a large number of palace paintings need to be coordinated by Chinese and Western painters, and also provided a prerequisite for the formation of the “Chinese and Western combination” style of palace architectural paintings. This picture shows the cooperation between Italian painter Lang Shining and several famous Chinese court painters at that time, depicting the scene of Emperor Qianlong and many princes enjoying snow in the palace during the New Year. From the perspective of technique, the figure in the picture is painted by Lang Shining, while the background of the house and the tree and stone are supplemented by Chinese painters, which makes the realistic painting style and realistic effect of Haixi’s painting directly reflected in the picture, and does not deviate from Chinese traditional customs in terms of aesthetic sentiment and artistic conception.
