Chen Mei was influenced by Lang Shining in his paintings, and used some western perspective painting methods to show the stereoscopic sense of objects. He used to “draw mountains and valleys, mountains and trees, and buildings and bridges by using the Haixi method on an inch paper ruler.” This volume shows the perfect combination of the Chinese and Western architecture of the Yuanmingyuan and the palace garden with a combination of Chinese and Western painting techniques, which makes people have endless reverie about this “garden of ten thousand gardens”. In the tenth year of Xianfeng (1860), the Anglo-French Allied Forces burned down the Old Summer Palace, so the artistic value of this book is very valuable.
