The Five-character Couplet in Running Script, written by Jiang Tingxi in the Qing Dynasty, is 125 cm vertically and 27 cm horizontally
Explanatory notes:
Payment Department: Jiang Tingxi. There are three seals: “Jiang Tingxi’s seal”, “Yang Sun’s seal” and “Yu Ti Yi Cui Tang’s seal”
This couplet is vigorous and vivid, and is a rare masterpiece of Jiang Tingxi’s calligraphy
Jiang Tingxi (1669-1732), born in Changshu, Jiangsu Province, is known as Yangsun, and is also known as Xigu, Nansha and Qingtong. In the 42nd year of Kangxi’s reign in the Qing Dynasty (1703), he was a scholar, and was an official to a bachelor. He is a famous painter in the Qing Dynasty. He is the author of “Autumn Wind in Qingtong Pavilion”, “Collection of Piece Clouds” and other books. His works are both skillful and elegant, and are deeply loved by Emperor Qianlong. Most of his works are hidden in the palace. There are few authentic paintings handed down, and calligraphy is even rarer.
