The title of this picture is “cool and green, Gong Xian.” The seal is “half” and “thousand”. The four characters of Wu Changshuo’s seal book, “Take the beauty of words”, are introduced
In his later years, Gong Xian bought several tiled houses and half an acre of land in Qingliang Mountain, Nanjing, planted flowers and grass, and painstakingly painted the “half an acre garden”. This picture depicts the real scene of Qingliang Mountain where Gong Xian lived. The picture is wide, surrounded by the ancient city, with undulating mountains, and the cool platform looming between the clouds and mist. The color is mainly stone green, with a large halo of cyan, which is rich and thick, and the ink is dripping. The specification, size and painting method of this picture are the same as those of the volume of “Photographing Mount Qixia” which depicts the scenery of Qixia Mountain in the Palace Museum in the same collection. It should be made at the same time. As Zeng Xi’s postscript on the tail paper commented, “The wild remains in Jinling for the longest time, and all the mountains are written in Jinling. The two pictures are particularly dark and gloomy, and reading them is like traveling in Qixia and cool, which enlarges my mind.”
Gong Xian rarely painted colors in his life. The Guangzhou Art Museum has collected its “Autumn Mountains and Waterfalls” axis, with the title: “Half an acre of people are nearly 60 years old, and none of them are color paintings, which is not a matter of learning…” The model year “Bingchen” (the 15th year of Kangxi, 1676), Gong Shi was 58 years old, so this picture should be painted in his later years after the age of 58
