Li Yin Honglou Banquet Picture Axis

[Axis of Li Yin’s Banquet in the Red Mansions]

Axis of the Banquet in the Red Mansions, Qing Dynasty, Li Yin’s painting, silk version, color setting, 200 cm vertically and 48.5 cm horizontally
The title of this painting is: “The poem of red sleeves blowing flute and green sleeves, and the Dai moths lightly frown on their red lips. They look at the wind and smoke left by people, and the moon in the weaving tower sends waves and streams. Li Yin and Li Yin recognize each other in the new autumn of the Guiwei period.” The seal is “Li Yin” and “Chen Yi”
Li Yin’s boundary paintings are very personalized in composition. In his own title of “The Painting of the Turning Wheel”, he once had a profound understanding of the traditional composition of Chinese painting Pingyuan’s “three far method” put forward his own views and propositions: “Those who are close to achieving things, regardless of their merits or demerits, only know how to look from the bottom to the top, so shrug it up and note it down, is the root of the still standing Fengyuan, and there is no longer the world outside. Although they are positive, they only know the order, but do not reach the reverse. If they are smooth, but the list can no longer taste. If they take the reverse, the potential is still key and implicit, so that the expansion is not embarrassed, that is, they can only take a glance?” While fully affirming the perspective of predecessors, it points out the importance of breaking the tradition and striving to create new ones. This picture is “inverted”, and is composed by “looking up and down” from a bird’s-eye view, so that the scenery to be described can be fully seen and displayed in front of the audience one by one, making a new look
It is worth noting that Li Yin’s paintings often contain poems and words related to his paintings, reflecting his comprehensive artistic and literary accomplishment beyond that of ordinary professional painters. These poems and articles complement the artistic conception, arouse the viewer’s nostalgia for the ancient times, enhance the literary nature of the works, and make the paintings have both the fine craftsmanship of professional painters and the lyric effect of literati paintings.
