[The peacock in the Qianlong Temple opens its screen and sticks it down]

The peacock in the Qianlong Temple opens its screen and sticks it down in the Qing Dynasty, in silk, in color, 340 cm vertically and 537 cm horizontally
This is a huge work showing the life of Emperor Qianlong’s court. It was posted in a palace in the Yuanmingyuan. In the picture, Qianlong sat on the pavilion, enjoying a pair of beautiful peacocks in the courtyard. Although this painting is not known by the author, from the perspective of technique and level, the portrait, two peacocks and the main part of the architecture should be made by Lang Shining. Among them, the depiction of the pavilions, regardless of the front, back, far and near, and the proportion of size, is appropriate, and the perspective principle of western painting is properly grasped, with a strong sense of space and depth. Because of its great length and true description, it makes people feel personally. It was the arrival of Western missionary painters such as Lang Shining that changed the traditional Chinese painting of pavilions, and finally led to the formation of the painting style of “Chinese and Western combination” of court architectural painting in the Qing Dynasty.
