[Picture Volume of Yuan Piao’s Green Villa Hall]

Picture Volume of Green Villa Hall, the forty-third year of Qianlong’s reign in the Qing Dynasty (1778), Yuan Piao’s painting, silk version, color setting, 41.8 cm vertical and 207 cm horizontal
The title of this picture is “Green Villa Hall. In the spring of 1898, I taught Mr. Weng Xuechang. In the Han Dynasty, Yuan Piao drew up the idea.” The seal is “Yuan Piao” and “Shaoyi”. “Wuxu” is the forty-third year of Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty (1778)
In the Qing Dynasty, a group of boundary painting writers specializing in pavilions and pavilions appeared in Yangzhou, represented by Yuan Jiang and Yuan Yao, and known as “Yuan’s Painting School”. Ni Can, Li Qing, Yuan Pao, Yuan Xue and others inherited the painting style of the two Yuan. This painting is obviously the same as Yuan Jiang and Yuan Yao’s father and son, but it only changes the long-axis giant screen form that they are good at into a scroll. Adapted to the form of expression, in terms of technique, Yuan Biao’s architectural strokes are more extensive and the colors are more simple, while the landscape as the architectural background changes from restless to peaceful, and the visual effect created by this also changes from the ethereal and transcendental, fairyland of Yuan’s father and son to plain and natural, closer to the real scene. This pavilion work represents the artistic level of Yuan’s biographical school.
