Because the atlas takes the palace life of the past dynasties as the title, each picture has a description of the palace architecture, but because the author is only a palace painter, he does not have the understanding and cognition of the previous generation of architecture. At the same time, the political function of the historical figure painting “becoming civilized and helping others” also desalinates the palace architecture of the past dynasties as the background of the character story, making it more decorative and stylized, It does not show the architectural style of different times. It is worth noting that the description of the buildings in the book adopts the “Haixi painting method”. The painting style characteristic embodied in Leng Mei’s works is to enhance the spatial depth of the picture by using perspective method on the basis of traditional Chinese paintings and to distinguish between yin and yang with the relationship between light and dark, indicating that the “Haixi painting method” once appreciated by Emperor Kangxi has been increasingly appreciated and accepted in the palace architectural paintings of the Yongzheng and Qianlong dynasties.
