Rhinoceros horn carved lotus cup

[Rhinoceros horn carved lotus cup]

Rhinoceros horn carved lotus cup, clear, 20 cm high, 7.8 cm – 8.2 cm diameter
The cup is in a tubular pattern, with its mouth folded and its three petals in an arc when viewed from the top. It is as beautiful as a bud waiting to be placed. The bottom of the cup is carved with stems, lotus seeds, lotus leaves, narcissus and polygonum grass. The lower stems are round carved into a bundle bound by a ribbon. This method of expression is to creatively represent the “lotus” pattern popular in the porcelain and other craft fields since the Song Dynasty as a three-dimensional, quite innovative. The middle part of the cup body is carved with exquisite carving to form several long and even vertical lines. In order to avoid similarities, the curvature of the stem, the turnover of the leaf and the elliptical surface of the lotus leaf are used to create the corresponding relationship between lines and surfaces and the three-dimensional spatial relationship between lines. This kind of decorative effect, which is constructed with less modeling elements, shows a brilliant craftsman. The transition between the engraving and the relief of the cup body as well as the rounded sculpture gathered at the bottom is very natural
Although this cup retains the natural shape of rhinoceros horn, it has created an artistic masterpiece with great beauty through ingenious carving.
