This picture was painted by Yun Shouping at the age of 55. The name of the painting “Shuangqing” is because the plum blossom is characterized by “the fragrance of the flowers swaying down and the beauty of the flowers”, while the narcissus is regarded as the “Qingwu” in the traditional painting subject matter with its light color, fragrance and breathtaking freshness. This picture is dyed on the silk floor with light blue halo to set off the design and color of Shuangqing. The plum tree is covered with stems and branches, and its petals follow the painting method of the Southern Song Dynasty. The lines are elegant and vigorous, and outline the vitality of flowers. Zhao Mengjian, a person of the Narcissus Fa Yuan Dynasty, wrote the rhyme of the line drawing pen. The leaves of the pen are full of changes such as quickness and delay, thickness and folding. The flowers are either up or down, or open or closed, and also changeable. The author successfully displays the beauty of plum blossom and narcissus with lively and varied performance techniques. The whole picture does not seek for perfection and similarity, but only for natural beauty, revealing the plain and elegant aesthetic interest that Yun Shouping has always pursued.
