[Bronze Gilded Thousand-handed Avalokitesvara]
Bronze Gilded Thousand-handed Avalokita, clear, 16.5 cm high
Thousand-handed and Thousand-eyed Avalokitesvara is also known as the Great Compassion Avalokitesvara. Its classics come from the “Thousand-handed and Thousand-eyed Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva’s Great Compassion Dharani Sutra”, “Thousand-handed and Thousand-eyed Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva’s Bodhisattva’s Bodhisattva’s Bodhisattva’s Bodhis. “Thousand hands” means to protect all sentient beings, and “thousand eyes” means to illuminate all things in the world. “Sadness” means being able to save others’ suffering, and has supreme power. Since the Tang Dynasty, the Thousand Hands and Thousand Eyes Guanyin has been widely sought after by the general believers. Because of its complex image, except for the extremely large ones, only 24 arms or less are usually used as symbolic signs. This Avalokitesvara has opposite arms in the middle, hands folded, and stands upright on the lotus platform with bare feet. The rest of the arms hold the Dharma. There is one person standing on the outside, which may be the good fortune and the dragon girl, or the beggar and the hungry ghost. This statue is designed in the form of a screen wall, which is more conducive to offering and worshipping besides its symbolic significance
